Hazel Henderson

Hazel Henderson
is a futurist and an economic iconoclast. She
is the founder of Ethical Markets Media, LLC and the creator and co-executive Producer of its TV series.

A world renowned futurist, evolutionary economist, a worldwide syndicated columnist, consultant on sustainable development, and author of The Axiom and Nautilus award-winning book Ethical Markets: Growing the Green Economy (2006) and eight other books. She co-edited, with Harlan Cleveland and Inge Kaul, The UN: Policy and Financing Alternatives, Elsevier Scientific, UK 1995 (US edition, 1996). Her editorials appear in 27 languages and in 200 newspapers syndicated by InterPress Service, Rome, New York, and Washington DC. Her articles have appeared in over 250 journals.

Started as an environmental activist in the 60s. From there, her understanding of the planet "started unravelling like a great ball of wool" ... This led her to studying economics, where she found out that the economic theories which underpinned economics were simply "all wrong".

From her video profile:
"We have to understand economics as a religion. It is presented as a science, but it's actually a religion. That's why I talk about economic fundamentalism".
"Nature is the great designer. Nature has been experimenting for 4 million years, and perfecting her designs during all that time."
... "How do we get economies that are totally embedded in how nature works?"
... "We are part of an enormous field of intelligence, and our job is to co-create with that great field of intelligence."

Henderson invented the concept of the Love Economy & compares her theory to a four-dimensional cake. She used a cake model because "economist are so fond of using the pie, the pie chart, all very one-dimentional". You can see more of this on her page in the Integral Permaculture e-book: http://bit.ly/HazelHenderson

Henderson has been one of the critics to point out that the definitions of reality devised by natural and social scientists often pertain to the realities they are paid to study — raising questions as to who has funded these investigators and theoreticians, and why? Who deems certain research grants to be worthy of funding? Which questions crop up in the first place?

Henderson believes that the various threats to peace, community security, and good environment have led us into a new era in which we are obliged to look for values, information, and know-how that we seemed to be able to do without until recent decades.

She has many awards and is listed in Who’s Who USA, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in Business and Finance and Who’s Who in Science and Technology. She is an Honorary Member of the Club of Rome. She shared the 1996 Global Citizen Award with Nobelist A. Perez Esquivel of Argentina. In 2007, she was elected a Fellow to Britain’s Royal Society of Arts, founded in 1754, and in 2010 she was honored as one of the “Top 100 Thought Leaders in Trustworthy Business Behavior 2010″ by Trust Across America.
